Wiltshire Police Working with BHS on ‘Dead Slow’ Campaign
Wiltshire Police have been busy handing over more “Dead Slow” signage – part of the ongoing British Horse Society campaign to help make our roads safer for horses and riders.
If there’s an area where horse riders regularly report near‑misses, we can provide signage for placement on private property. These signs remind drivers to slow down, give plenty of space, and help prevent horses from becoming frightened on the roads.
To request signage, please email your nearest local neighbourhood policing team (NPT):

Swindon Central South: SwindonCentralSouthNPT@wiltshire.police.uk
With traffic increasing and roads getting busier, it’s becoming more challenging for vulnerable road users like horse riders and carriage drivers.
Our aim is simple:
Reduce incidents and fatalities
Guide all road users on how to pass horses safely.
By spreading the word and displaying these signs, we can help every driver know what to do if they encounter a horse on the road.
