Check Your Vehicle is Safe Before Travelling
All drivers have a duty to make sure their vehicle is in a safe and legal condition before setting out on a journey.
This duty extends to any trailer, caravan or horse box and checks need to be carried out separately and include: –
• Checking it is securely attached to the tow bar; jockey wheel lifted and secured.
• Electrics are connected and all lights working.
• Check tyres are fully inflated, undamaged and with sufficient tread.
• Check brakes (if fitted) are working properly.
• Check load is securely fastened in place and/or covered.
• Any parts of the load that are protruding are clearly marked.
• Any doors are fastened shut.
