Devon and Cornwall Police Rural Affairs Team work with Partners to raise awareness on safely passing horses on the road
Working with our partners today (29/4/25) across Dartmoor National Park we have been raising awareness of the safe passing of horses on our road network.
When driving, please remember-
-Pass slowly at a minimum of 2 meters
-Pass at no more than 10mph
PC Wyatt of the Rural Affairs Team said-
“We would like to ask road users to think about the manner of their driving around horses and livestock on the Moors and all other roads, ensuring that the animals and riders are given time and space for the safety of all road users” “Please pass no closer than 2 meters to any horse and rider and ensure to reduce your speed to 10mph or less”
“If you witness any horse related road incidents, please ensure to report these to Police and submit any video footage to the Operation Snap website as soon as possible”- https://www.devon-cornwall.police.uk/opsnap
In an emergency or ongoing incident, always call 999.
